UPDATED With Statement From AP:
“We are deeply sorry for cutting our interview with Babyface short on our YouTube livestream of the Grammys red carpet. We have apologized to him through his representative and to our viewers on the livestream,” the organization said in a statement posted Monday morning on social media.

PREVIOUSLY on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 7:37 PM:
His name is Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds — and he’s written some of the biggest hits in R&B.

But two young women doing live red carpet interviews for the Associated Press on the Grammys red carpet Sunday night apparently weren’t aware of Babyface’s credentials and cut him off mid-interview.

Instead of showing the music legend respect, the women essentially asked him to step aside so they could interview Chappell Roan, 26, who went into the awards with six nominations, and later won the best new artist trophy.

The awkward moment happened just as Babyface, 65, was talking about something he found “interesting.” One of the women appeared to be listening, but the other began yelling “Chappell, Chappell” as the “Good Luck, Babe!” singer made her way down the carpet.

Babyface was surprised by the women’s behavior, but he took it in stride.

“You guys want to do that? Go do that,” he said graciously and walked away.

The other woman grabbed the microphone from the singer/songwriter/producer and said, “I’m sorry.”

It didn’t take long for the video to set off a social media storm.

Dionne Warwick reposted the footage on X (formerly Twitter) and asked: “13x Grammy Award winning Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds? Am I seeing this correctly?” She followed up with a second post that included the definition of “decorum.”

Khloe Kardashian reposted the clip as well on X, and included a lengthy statement. She wrote in part: “This is so disrespectful how Babyface was treated in this interview. Babyface has had such a significant impact on the music industry, in sooo many ways. Its maddening to see a LEGEND not get the respect and attention they deserve. He is a pioneer and deserves so much better than this.”

Writer and author Nicole Nichelle added on X: “Snubbing Babyface on this 2nd day of Black History Month is A CHOICE.”

Singer and author Marcus Shepard wrote on the platform: “She doesn’t know who he is… because if she did, she never would’ve done that to THEE Legendary Babyface.”

AP identified the women on screen as Leslie Ambriz and Krysta Fauria.

Fauria, who was the one yelling for Chappell Roan to come speak with her, apologized at the end of the live stream.

“I wanted to say that I’m really sorry about interrupting Babyface earlier. Chappell Roan had come up and there was a lot of commotion as there is on these carpets. But I’m a big Babyface fan, as are we all, so I just wanted to say that I really apologize,” Fauria said.
