Garcelle Beauvais Decided ‘The View’ Was ‘Not for Me’ After Negative Interactions With Nicolle Wallace and Rosie Perez

Garcelle Beauvais is sharing more details about her audition on The View.

Beauvais secured an on-air tryout on the ABC daytime talk show in 2015, and spent a week co-hosting. But in a new interview, she told TV One’s autobiographical series Uncensored, the environment at The View was so negative, she decided it wasn’t a good fit.

“I was in Haiti doing some charity work with my kids, and I got a call that they wanted me to come and co-host for The View for a week. Huge!” the actress, model and author said in a preview clip for her TV One interview.

“I’m in the wardrobe room at The View and Nicolle Wallace and I are in there, so I thought I’d strike up a conversation,” Beauvais recalled. “I knew she had kids, so I said, ‘Oh, you have kids.’ But she goes ‘uh-huh.’ And that’s it. She says nothing back like, ‘Do you have kids?’ Nothing.”

Things only got worse as the week continued.

“A couple of days in, I’m on set and we’re doing our thing. I feel like I’ve got a good rhythm, I’m not really sure. I’m talking… I get kicked under the table by Rosie Perez. It wasn’t a kick where like, oh she’s crossing her legs. It was a kick where it was intentional,” she explained.

Beauvais said Perez knocked on the door of her dressing room the next day, and asked if they could speak alone.

“She said, ‘I kicked you because I wanted you to stop talking,'” Beauvais recalled, adding, “That’s not how you do it. I’m in your house, but that kick said a lot. A lot to me and I didn’t want to be in that environment. I had heard a lot of stories.”

At the end of the week, Beauvais had a meeting with one of the show’s executives, and said she told the exec: “It’s not for me.”

Beauvais previously shared details about her experiences on the show in her memoir Love Me as I Am. As we reported, she said Whoopi Goldberg was “testy” with the show’s producers and “it was cringeworthy.”

Despite her experiences at The View, Beauvais didn’t give up on her dream of co-hosting a talk show. She served as a co-host on The Real for seasons 7 and 8 before the show ended in June. She currently co-stars on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

Beauvais will dish more details about her successes and obstacles in Hollywood this weekend on TV One.

Uncensored: Garcelle Beauvais airs Sunday, Oct. 16 at 10/9c.
