The cast of Forever is expanding ahead of season 2.

Netflix announced Friday production has gotten underway in Los Angeles on the second season of the teen romantic drama.

Along with the announcement, the streamer said the series is adding three actors in recurring guest roles.

The trio includes model and actress Malaika Guttoh as “Ameena.” Tre McBride (Fight for ‘84) joins the show as “Elijah,” and Avery Wills Jr. (Swagger) will play “Jaden.”

Lovie Simone and Michael Cooper Jr. lead the cast as “Keisha” and “Justin.” Returning stars also include Karen Pittman, Wood Harris and Xosha Roquemore.

Mara Brock Akil is creator, showrunner and executive producer.

“Season 2 of Forever is in production and we are home — back in Los Angeles, back inside a love story that keeps revealing itself — this time, through friendship,” Brock Akil told Netflix blog Tudum.

“Because when you’re standing at the edge of adulthood, staring into the abyss, it’s your real ones you want to run back to. Every choice feels final, even though it’s your first time being truly grown. We are thrilled to be back, diving deeper into love’s most complicated question– is forever truly forever?” she added.

In addition to Brock Akil, executive producers include Regina King, Susie Fitzgerald, Reina King, Erika Harrison.

Grammy Award-winning musician Khris Riddick-Tynes is joining the series as executive music producer for the second season.

Based on Judy Blume’s 1975 young adult novel by the same name, Forever is reimagined and follows two Black teens exploring romance and their identities in 2018.

“Can exes really be friends? Four years later, Justin and Keisha are doing pretty well post pandemic—new relationships, real jobs and adulting their big dreams—that is…until they run into each other summer 2023,” the official description reads for season 2.

Forever debuted in May 2025 to critical acclaim. The series has a 97% score from TV critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

A premiere date for the eight-episode second season will be announced later.
