There’s a new generation of the Evans family, but some of their struggles are the same in the first trailer for Netflix’s animated Good Times reboot.

The streamer unveiled the preview on Wednesday, March 27.

The two-minute video shows the Evans family trying to keep their heads above water in a Chicago housing project, while dealing with family squabbles, gun violence, and drug dealers.

The voice cast includes J.B. Smoove as “Reggie Evans,” Yvette Nicole Brown as “Beverly Evans,” Jay Pharoah plays their teenage son “Junior,” Marsai Martin portrays their activist daughter “Grey,” Gerald “Slink” Johnson plays infant drug dealer “Dalvin,” and Rashida “Sheedz” Olayiwola portrays “Lashes by Lisa.”

The reimagined comedy comes from executive producer Seth MacFarlane and showrunner Ranada Shepard, and is inspired by Norman Lear’s classic 1970s sitcom of the same name.

Additional executive producers include NBA star Steph Curry, Brent Miller, Erica Huggins, Erick Peyton, and Jeron Smith.

Here’s the official description: “An animated reboot of the Norman Lear series finds the latest generation of the Evans family, cab driver Reggie and his wife, the ever-aspirational Beverly, scratching and surviving in one of the last remaining housing projects in Chicago along with their teenage artist son, Junior, activist daughter Grey, and drug dealing infant son, Dalvin. It turns out the more things change the more they stay the same and keeping your head above water in a system with its knee on your neck is as challenging as ever. The only thing tougher than life is love, but in this family, there’s more than enough to go around.”

The 10-episode series is produced in partnership with Norman Lear’s Act III Productions, Sony Pictures Television, Fuzzy Door Productions, and Unanimous Media.

Good Times is set to premiere April 12 on Netflix. Watch the trailer below.
