Deion Sanders says he is “cancer free” and ready for the 2026 college football season.

The University of Colorado head coach shared the update on his battle with bladder cancer during an interview Tuesday on Good Morning America.

“I’m healthy, I’ve got my health back. I’ve got my swagger back,” the Pro Football Hall of Famer said. “Last year at this time, I was fighting cancer. I didn’t know which way it was going to go.”

He revealed GMA co-host and fellow NFL legend, Michael Strahan, helped him get through the ordeal.

“Thank you for being the friend and the man of God that you are, calling me to check on me, and making sure I’m straight,” Sanders told Strahan.

In July 2025, Sanders told reporters at a news conference that he was battling cancer and described his treatment regimen as “tough.”

He was joined by Dr. Janet Kukreja, director of urological oncology at the University of Colorado Hospital, who explained part of Sanders’ intestine was reconstructed and now functions as a bladder.

On Tuesday, Sanders, 58, spoke candidly on GMA about being unable to control his bladder because of the disease.

He said he initially feared he might have an accident in public and credited Depend, which sponsored the GMA segment, with giving him back his confidence.

“With Depend I have a partner,” said Sanders, who is now a spokesman for the brand. “I don’t have to be afraid to travel anymore. I don’t have to be afraid to have a good night’s sleep. I have the products that help me.”

The sports legend later thanked his doctors and God for turning things around.

“I’m cancer free. I’m good. Great doctors in Colorado that have brought me through. God has brought me through. I’m thankful I’m healthy,” he said.

“Early detection was key, getting on it early,” he added, while encouraging men to see their doctors regularly.

Sanders quipped that he’s looking forward to “winning” in the upcoming college football season.
