The African American Film Critics Association will celebrate “some of the industry’s most influential creatives, executives, storytellers, and performers” at the 8th Annual AAFCA TV Honors.
During the August ceremony, the organization will hand out Special Achievement Awards to five honorees.
The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins star Tracy Morgan will receive the inaugural Flip Wilson Award, which was created to recognize “artists who use comedy as a vehicle for cultural commentary while reflecting the richness, complexity and authenticity of Black stories.”
Kathryn Busby, president of original programming at Starz, will receive the TV Vanguard Award.
Writer-producer Celeste Hughey will be honored with the organization’s Impact Award.
Lamar Chase, senior vice president of current programming at Sony Pictures Television, will receive the Horizon Award.
Writer-producer Felicia Pride will be recognized with the Salute to Excellence Award.
The honorees will be given their awards at the 8th Annual AAFCA TV Honors in Downtown Los Angeles on Saturday, Aug. 8, at the City Club LA.
Established in 2003, AAFCA is made up of Black film critics and entertainment journalists who review films and television shows, with an emphasis on projects highlighting the Black experience in the U.S. and throughout the rest of the African Diaspora.
