The comedy world is uniting to honor one of its own — standup comic and actor Sinbad — during this year’s “Netflix Is a Joke Fest.”
The special tribute will recognize Sinbad’s contributions to comedy and raise money for his medical care as he recovers from a stroke, Netflix said in an announcement.
“The Sinbad Tribute Show” hosted by Doug E. Fresh will take place on Monday, May 6 at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California.
The lineup of performers includes Deon Cole, D.L. Hughley, Byron Allen, Mark Curry, DJ Trauma and more.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Sinbad Special Needs Trust, established to provide financial support for his recovery.
As previously reported, the comedy legend suffered a stroke on Oct. 25, 2020, and he needs extensive physical rehabilitation. Updates on his recovery and wellbeing have been periodically shared by his family through a dedicated website, which also collects donations for his medical expenses.
Sinbad, now 67, rose to fame in the late 1980s and 1990s with his engaging stand-up performances and television roles. The comedian, born David Adkins, is best known for his HBO comedy specials and his starring role on Fox sitcom The Sinbad Show.
His other notable roles include hosting Showtime at the Apollo and parts on The Cosby Show, A Different World, Moesha, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. In recent years, he voiced Uroho the baboon in Disney Junior’s The Lion Guard and was featured in the Fox sitcom “Rel.”
“The Sinbad Tribute Show” is part of the broader “Netflix Is a Joke Fest,” which kicked off today in the Los Angeles area and runs through May 12, 2024.
This year’s festival features over 300 performances across 35 venues, with comedy heavyweights like Kevin Hart, Jerry Seinfeld, Katt Williams, Sarah Silverman, and many others taking the stage.
In 2022, the festival was a local hit, with more than 260,000 tickets sold, Netflix said.
Tickets for the Sinbad tribute show are available at NetflixIsAJokeFest.com.
