The 2019 BET Awards were full of powerful speeches and epic performances.
Host Regina Hall kicked off Sunday’s show at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles with a tribute to her hometown of Washington, D.C. and Beyoncé’s Homecoming film. The Girls Trip actress was joined on stage by Taraji P. Henson and members of two legendary D.C. go-go groups — James Funk of Rare Essence and Gregory “Sugar Bear” Elliott of Experience Unlimited.
Other noteworthy moments included performances by Migos, Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus, and Mary B. Blige’s incredible mini-concert after picking up the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Tyler Perry brought the audience to its feet with his speech about owning your way after accepting BET’s Ultimate Icon award, and at the end of the show, rapper, entrepreneur and community activist Nipsey Hussle was honored posthumously with BET’s Humanitarian Award.

Among the winners, Cardi B picked up awards for Album of the Year for Invasion of Privacy and Female Hip Hop artist of the year. Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman took the award for Best Movie, while Regina King and Michael B. Jordan won acting honors.
