The women of Women Like Us are ready for their closeups.
Netflix announced Friday, Sept. 25, production is underway on the new dramedy starring Jenifer Lewis, Whoopi Goldberg, Vivica A. Fox and Vanessa Williams.
The streamer also shared photos on social media of the four actresses together, giving fans a first look at the cast since the film was announced in July.
Tasha Smith is directing, from a script by Ali Kinney (Ginny & Georgia and The Crossover) with additional writing by Tracy Oliver of Girls Trip fame.
The film follows a recently widowed woman whose lifelong best friends and sister take her to the Hamptons on what would have been her 30th wedding anniversary.
“The weekend becomes a reckoning, with grief, with marriage, with the sisterhood that’s carried them throughout the years, and with the realization that dreams don’t have an expiration date,” according to the official description.
The project reunites Goldberg and Lewis, who appeared together in Sister Act and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit.
Macro Film Studios and Higher Ground are producing, with former first lady Michelle Obama executive producing alongside Charles D. King and Poppy Hanks for Macro.
Earlier this month, Macro announced it had acquired AllBlk, returning the streaming service to Black ownership. Among Macro’s other films are the Oscar-winning Judas and the Black Messiah and Fences, as well as Mudbound, Just Mercy, and Sorry to Bother You.
A release date for Women Like Us will be announced later.
