Animals stars Ben Affleck and Kerry Washington (Netflix)

Ben Affleck and Kerry Washington race against time to save their kidnapped son in the upcoming Netflix thriller Animals.

Affleck directs and stars in the film as Mark Kimball, a mayoral candidate whose family is thrown into turmoil when his son is abducted. Washington plays Kimball’s distraught wife.

As the couple scrambles to raise a ransom payment and save their son, they become caught in a dangerous web of lies and deception. According to the official description, they are “forced to make choices that could tear their world apart.”

Netflix released a tense teaser trailer for the film on Wednesday, Aug. 12. While there is no dialogue in the video, it offers a look at the couple’s growing desperation.

In one scene, Washington’s character breaks down in tears. Other moments show Affleck’s character apparently trying to navigate the kidnapping without destroying his political career or putting his family in more danger.

The star-studded cast also includes Gillian Anderson, Steven Yeun, Adriana Paz, Ray Fisher, Christopher Woodley, Matt Gerald, Jacob Estrada, and Luis Gerardo Méndez.

Affleck co-wrote the screenplay with Connor O. McIntyre and Billy Ray. The two-time Oscar winner (Argo and Good Will Hunting) also produced the thriller alongside his longtime collaborator Matt Damon, Brad Weston, Collin Creighton, Dani Bernfeld and Luciana Damon.

Animals is scheduled to arrive in select theaters and begin streaming on Netflix on Oct. 9.

Affleck previously directed the sports drama Air (2023), along with Argo (2012) as mentioned, The Town (2010), and Gone Baby Gone (2007).
