Trina Braxton’s husband Von Scales has died, a representative for the singer and reality star confirmed.
Scales passed away in Atlanta on Thursday, Oct. 1. He was 58.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Von Scales, beloved husband of Trina Braxton,” a rep for the Braxton family said in a statement to TMZ.
The statement continued, “The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers but is asking for privacy at this time as they navigate this unfortunate event.”
No cause of death was released, although sources told TMZ that Scales had recently been battling heart problems.
The couple exchanged vows in December 2019, and their wedding was featured on the family’s reality show.
In a clip from WE tv’s The Braxtons, Scales was taken to a hospital during Towanda Braxton’s March 2025 wedding to partner Sean Hall.
The incident was shown on the reality show in November. A doctor told Scales to go to the hospital that morning because of “very high” potassium levels, but he ignored the doctor’s instructions.
“Did Von listen? No. I don’t know why men don’t listen,” Trina said in the clip.
The doctor was at the wedding and ordered Scales to go to the hospital immediately.
“I think for Von, his most important thing was not ruining Towanda’s day. But I think what would have really ruined Towanda’s big day was if my husband had a heart attack on the dance floor. Go to the hospital Von!” Trina said.
Scales was an entrepreneur in the wellness industry. This was Trina’s second marriage.
Her ex-husband, Gabe Solis, died of cancer in 2018. Trina, 51, was a founding member of R&B group The Braxtons. She is the younger sister of R&B legend Toni Braxton.
