Imagine if Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown got together for one night. That’s the premise behind the new film One Night in Miami, from Oscar and Emmy-winning actress Regina King.
Amazon released the first trailer on Wednesday for King’s directorial debut. The film offers a fictional account of one night in the lives of four iconic Black men as they gather to discuss their roles in the civil rights movement in the 1960s.
Kingsley Ben-Adir, Eli Goree, Aldis Hodge, and Leslie Odom Jr. star in the drama. Beau Bridges, Lance Reddick, Joaquina Kalukango, and Nicolette Robinson round out the main cast.

One Night in Miami is based on a play of the same name by Kemp Powers, who wrote the screenplay.
Here’s Amazon’s official synopsis: “On one incredible night in 1964, four icons of sports, music, and activism gathered to celebrate one of the biggest upsets in boxing history. When underdog Cassius Clay, soon to be called Muhammad Ali, (Eli Goree), defeats heavy weight champion Sonny Liston at the Miami Convention Hall, Clay memorialized the event with three of his friends: Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adir), Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom Jr.) and Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge).”
The film is produced by Jess Wu Calder, Keith Calder, and Jody Klein. King, Powers, Paul O. Davis, and Chris Harding serve as executive producers.
One Night in Miami arrives in select theaters on Dec. 25, and on Prime Video Jan. 15, 2021.
