Alijah Arenas, a USC basketball recruit who was seriously injured last week in a fiery car crash in Los Angeles, is now at home with his family, a spokesperson announced on Wednesday, April 30.

“We are grateful to share that Alijah Arenas has been released from the hospital and is now resting comfortably under close watch,” the spokesperson said in a statement to Fox 11 Los Angeles.

“While his journey to full recovery is just beginning, his spirit remains strong, and he is surrounded by love and support,” the statement continued.

Arenas, 18, is the son of Basketball Wives alum Laura Govan and NBA star Gilbert Arenas.

The teenager crashed a Tesla Cybertruck into a tree and a fire hydrant in the Winnetka neighborhood of L.A. just before 5 a.m. on April 24.

Local news station ABC 7 aired footage of the burning vehicle and interviewed a man named Bryant Sandoval, who said noise from the crash woke him up.

Sandoval grabbed a fire extinguisher, ran outside, and began fighting the flames before the fire department arrived.

“I heard some banging coming from inside the car, so we knew someone was in there,” said Sandoval. “[We] tried putting out the fire, didn’t help. Tried smashing the back window on the driver’s side, couldn’t do it — couldn’t figure out how to open the door.”

He and other good Samaritans pulled the teenager out of a window to safety.

Arenas was transported to an area hospital and placed in a medically induced coma.

Last week, the teen’s family praised the “brave” resident who pulled him from the burning vehicle.
