TV One Adds ‘Black-ish’ Repeats to Programming Lineup

The Johnson family is coming back for a trip down memory lane. TV One announced Friday, the cable network has added award-winning sitcom Black-ish to its programming lineup, in time for the show’s 10th anniversary.

The network will celebrate the milestone with a special marathon event starting the night of Sept. 27 and running all day Sept. 28.

Black-ish aired from Sept. 24, 2014 to April 19, 2022 on ABC, tackled social issues including colorism, microaggressions, politics, and the challenges of being a Black family in a predominantly white neighborhood.

The comedy series starred Anthony Anderson as Andre “Dre” Johnson, Tracee Ellis Ross as Rainbow Johnson, Yara Shahidi as Zoey Johnson, Marcus Scribner as Andre Johnson Jr., Miles Brown as Jack Johnson, Marsai Martin as Diane Johnson, Laurence Fishburne as Pops, and Jenifer Lewis as Ruby.

During the show’s eight-season run, it received 19 Emmy nominations, winning once for outstanding contemporary hairstyling. Tracee Ellis Ross also took home a Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy series in 2017. In 2019, the show dominated the NAACP Image Awards, winning outstanding comedy series for the fifth year in a row, along with acting honors for Anderson, Ross, and Martin.

The success of Black-ish led to several spin-offs, including Grown-ish and Mixed-ish.

Black-ish was created by Kenya Barris, who also served as an executive producer along with Courtney Lilly, Laura Gutin Peterson, Anderson, Fishburne, Helen Sugland, E. Brian Dobbins, and Michael Petok. The series was produced by ABC Signature, a division of Disney Television Studios.
