Perez Hilton’s Mom Asks Court for Temporary Custody of His Kids

Perez Hilton’s mother has filed for temporary custody of his three children following the celebrity gossip blogger’s livestreamed mental health crisis.

Teresita Lavandeira filed the petition in Miami family court on Aug. 7, three days after Hilton was shown harming himself on social media, according to court documents obtained by NBC 6 South Florida.

Hilton, 48, is a single father of three children born via surrogacy — a 13-year-old son, an 11-year-old daughter, and an 8-year-old daughter.

In a statement released through her attorney, Lavandeira said family members want the children to begin healing after witnessing their father’s health crisis.

“My main concern and objective, as well as the family’s, is to protect the children and make sure they are safe. We want them to have some sense of normalcy as they begin their journey of healing after the tragic events that occurred last week,” the statement read.

A statement released by the family last week, said the children and other relatives were inside Hilton’s home when he began harming himself on Aug. 4.

“Just minutes before the public livestream incident, Perez’s children, niece, and sister were inside the home. When it became clear that Perez was experiencing a severe mental health crisis and harming himself, they immediately fled to protect the children from witnessing any further trauma,” the statement read.

The influencer streamed his medical emergency on TikTok live, and could be seen holding a knife and appearing to cut himself while bleeding. Other social media users on the livestream pleaded with him to stop.

The stream continued for at least 15 minutes, leading to criticism of TikTok for failing to end it sooner. The video was later removed, and Hilton’s account was suspended.

TikTok blamed a “moderator error” for the delay in removing the video.

Miami-Dade sheriff’s deputies responded to the home after receiving “multiple calls regarding an individual who was livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media,” the department said.

Hilton, whose legal name is Mario Lavandeira Jr., was hospitalized under Florida’s Baker Act.

According to state law, the Baker Act allows a person experiencing a mental health crisis to be involuntarily taken to a medical facility for an emergency psychiatric evaluation.

His family has said Hilton suffered “significant blood loss” and faces a “long” recovery.

Hilton rose to prominence in the early 2000s by reporting celebrity gossip on his website, PerezHilton.com. He calls himself the “queen of all media” and “the original influencer.”
