Rick Ross surrendered to Miami Beach police Thursday morning and made a court appearance in connection with allegations that he attacked and strangled an ex-girlfriend.
Ross, whose legal name is William Leonard Roberts II, was booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami, Florida at 6:10 a.m.
The 50-year-old rapper was charged with one felony count of battery by strangulation and one misdemeanor count of battery, CBS Miami reported.
According to Miami Beach police and the arrest affidavit, the charges stem from an alleged altercation at his Star Island mansion in August.
The affidavit says Ross and the ex-girlfriend had been in a relationship for about a year and were living together at the time.

The woman told investigators Ross woke her up on Aug. 28 and accused her of cheating.
She alleged he slapped her in the face, repeatedly struck her and restricted her breathing by grabbing and twisting the collar of her hoodie. She also accused him of slamming her against a wall.
The woman provided investigators with photos of her alleged injuries, according to the report.
Ross appeared in court Thursday, Oct. 1, where his bond was set at $5,000. He was ordered to stay away from the woman and surrender any firearms. His arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 22.
“The allegations are false. He’s innocent and everything is going to come out,” the rapper’s attorney, Bradley Horenstein, told reporters outside court. “We just ask that you allow the process to play out before rushing to judgment.”
The arrest came just days after Ross’s ex-girlfriend Jazzma Kendrick accused him on social media of domestic abuse.
She posted photos of herself with a busted lip on her Instagram Stories, according to WorldStarHipHop.
Kendrick, 39, is a model and beauty content creator. She captioned one photo: “I don’t know a lot of things, but I do know that a man that puts his hands on me, is a man that never loved me and never will.”
The caption over the second picture read: “The day Rick busted my lip and the day I left.”
