Tiffany Haddish Pleads Guilty in Years-Long Georgia DUI Case

Tiffany Haddish is putting a years-long Georgia DUI case behind her.

The Girls Trip star pleaded guilty on Tuesday, Aug. 11, to one misdemeanor alcohol-related driving charge, according to NBC News.

As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors dismissed the remaining misdemeanor charges against the actress and comedian.

She was sentenced to 12 months of probation and 24 hours behind bars. Although she received credit for the time she served right after her arrest in January 2022 and will not have to return to jail.

A judge also ordered Haddish to avoid using drugs and alcohol and submit to testing, complete a DUI course and take part in a substance abuse evaluation. Her Georgia driver’s license was additionally suspended.

Haddish entered her plea via video call. Atlanta News First covered the court proceedings and posted the video on YouTube.

Back in 2022, she briefly landed in jail in Peachtree City, outside of Atlanta. Authorities said a 911 caller reported seeing someone asleep behind the wheel at a traffic light around 2:30 a.m.

A police officer spotted a vehicle “matching the description and ultimately conducted a traffic stop as the vehicle pulled into the yard of a residence,” the Peachtree City Police Department said in a statement at the time.

The “subsequent investigation led to Ms. Tiffany Haddish being arrested for Driving Under the Influence,” the statement continued.

Haddish was released a few hours later after posting $1,666 bail, as previously reported.

Her attorneys argued her right to a speedy trial was violated by the four-year delay and asked for the case to be dismissed. A judge rejected the request, saying Haddish was partly to blame for the case dragging on.

The court said her attorneys requested some of the delays, including one request saying she needed to leave the country to attend a fashion show in Morocco.

Just over a year after the Georgia arrest, Haddish was taken into custody in Beverly Hills, California on suspicion of driving under the influence. The arrest happened after she left a free Thanksgiving dinner and comedy event for the homeless at The Laugh Factory in November 2023.

Officers took her into custody following a complaint about a driver “stopped in the middle of Beverly Drive … apparently slumped over the wheel while the car was running.” She was cited for driving under the influence and released.

She later pleaded no contest to a vehicle code violation, and two misdemeanor DUI charges against her were dropped in February 2024, the Los Angeles Times reported.

A Los Angeles County judge ordered her to complete a driver’s education program, the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Victim Impact Program, L.A. County’s Hospital and Morgue Program, plus perform 40 hours of community service and pay a fine.

“Ms. Haddish has agreed to a simple vehicle code violation (not driving under the influence which has been dismissed) and looks forward to this being behind her,” her attorney Alex Spiro told The Times.
