Mahershala Ali is torn between faith, family and violence in Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother.
The two-time Oscar winner leads the cast of the Orion Pictures and Amazon MGM Studios film as Latif, a devoutly religious hitman struggling to balance his deadly job with fatherhood and his beliefs.
After losing his wife, Latif embarks on a desperate journey across Houston to raise his children alone, while confronting deadly forces that are closing in around him.
“Now, I have to fill her shoes. I’m breaking,” Ali says in the trailer.
“Don’t underestimate Latif,” a voiceover warns as the desperate father sharpens a knife blade.

Bassam Tariq wrote and directed the crime thriller. The filmmaker was previously attached to direct Marvel Studios’ long-delayed Blade reboot starring Ali, but left the project after it was announced.
Last week, the actor confirmed he had also moved on from the vampire-slayer film. “If they wanted to do it, we would’ve done it. So I have to move on, and I have moved on,” he told GQ about the stalled Marvel project.
Ali told the outlet about his new film, “I was really attracted to the challenge of playing a character that felt so stretched… I’m so grateful that we were able to see this through and find what I believe is the right thing together.”
The trailer is getting props on social media. Amazon MGM Studios posted the video to YouTube on Monday, Aug. 3, and fans responded with hundreds of comments.
“The blend of deep spiritual weight, raw grief, and visceral action in this trailer is unreal,” one person wrote.
“Mahershala Ali said since Marvel Studios won’t make my Blade movie, fine I’ll do it myself,” another person chimed in.
“The man trained for a whole year to play Blade before Marvel axed it. Poetic that he and the original director make their own movie. I hope Mahershala gets another Oscar off this one,” someone else wrote.
The actor is joined in the cast by John Cho, Abubakr Ali, Laith Nakli, Tramell Tillman, Tiffany Boone, and Giancarlo Esposito, along with Adia and Jahleel Kamara.
Lucan Toh, Babak Anvari and Tariq produced the film, while Brian O’Neill serves as executive producer.
Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother will make its world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival this fall. The thriller opens in select theaters on Sept. 25, before expanding nationwide in October.
