Four Hollywood legends are joining forces for a new Netflix comedy executive produced by former first lady Michelle Obama.
Whoopi Goldberg, Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams, and Vivica A. Fox have signed on to star in Women Like Us, with actress and filmmaker Tasha Smith set to direct.
The comedy marks a reunion for Goldberg and Lewis, who appeared together in the 1992 musical comedy Sister Act and the follow-up Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (1993).

Women Like Us follows a recently widowed woman whose lifelong best friends and sister take her to the Hamptons on what would have been her 30th wedding anniversary.
“The weekend becomes a reckoning, with grief, with marriage, with the sisterhood that’s carried them throughout the years, and with the realization that dreams don’t have an expiration date,” according to the official description.
Smith will direct from an original script by Ali Kinney, whose credits include Grown-ish and Ginny & Georgia. Tracy Oliver, who is best known for her work on the films Girls Trip, The Blackening and the Prime Video series Harlem, also contributed to the script.
The project adds to Smith’s growing resume behind the camera. Her directing credits include the television shows Bel-Air, Harlem, and Mayor of Kingstown. She is also directing Netflix’s upcoming faith-based film ’Tis So Sweet, starring Taraji P. Henson and Joey Bada$$.
The streaming giant is partnering with the Obamas’ production company Higher Ground and Macros Film Studios for Women Like Us. In addition to Michelle Obama, executive producers include Charles D. King and Poppy Hanks for Macro.
Higher Ground previously partnered with Netflix on projects including Leave the World Behind, Rustin, American Symphony, Bodkin and Court of Gold.
Macro’s earlier projects include the acclaimed films Judas and the Black Messiah, Mudbound, Fences, Just Mercy, Sorry to Bother You, Roman J. Israel, Esq., as well as Nine Days and They Cloned Tyrone. Over the years, the company has won three Oscars.
Production on Women Like Us is scheduled to begin this fall in New York City.
