‘Power: Origins’ Prequel Series Begins Production With 6 New Characters

Starz is rounding out the cast of its upcoming prequel series, Power: Origins, with six new additions.

On Monday, Dec. 1, the network said filming is now underway in New Jersey, and announced Jason Dirden will reprise his role as Traymont Stinson from Power Book III: Raising Kanan.

The new series will center on the backstory of Power characters James “Ghost” St. Patrick and Tommy Egan “as ambitious young entrepreneurs on the rise,” according to the official description.

Joining the cast in a recurring role is Jennifer Ferrin (The Knick) as Tommy’s mother Kate Egan.

Lizzy DeClement (New Amsterdam) will play Jill Wexler, a nurse at a local hospital who falls for Tommy.

Lenny Platt (The Dutchman) has signed on as Lenny Seidell, a fitness entrepreneur who deals in steroids and is always looking for new partners.

Armani Gabriel (Blue Bloods) plays J-Boogs, a smart foot soldier with an eye for the game.

Everett Osborne (Why Did I Get Married Again) joins the cast as Omay Moreau, an NFL star with ties to the criminal world.

Charlie Mann (The Watchers) signed on to play a young Tommy and Spence Moore II will portray Ghost, as previously reported.

MeKai Curtis of Power Book III: Raising Kanan will reprise his role as Kanan Stark in the prequel.

Longtime Power universe producer Sascha Penn serves as showrunner and executive produces the prequel series.

“Ghost and Tommy’s backstories have fueled years of constant fascination and speculation among fans, and I’m thrilled to be able to answer some long-held questions and share new layers of the story that viewers won’t see coming,” Penn said earlier this year.

Lionsgate Television is producing the prequel series for Starz.

A release date for the 18-episode first season will be announced later.
