Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is making the leap to streaming in time for Christmas.

Paramount+ will expand its holiday offerings with the Tom Cruise-led action thriller arriving on the platform Dec. 4, the streamer announced this week.

Since its theatrical release in May 2025, the film has grossed $598 million at the worldwide box office, including $197 million domestically — securing its place among the year’s most successful blockbusters.

According to Box Office Mojo, the thriller is currently the 9th top-grossing movie of the year. A Minecraft Movie and Lilo & Stitch are in a dead heat for first place.

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, The Final Reckoning is the eighth installment in the Mission Impossible franchise. The film is set two months after the events of Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning.

The Final Reckoning features Cruise as Ethan Hunt and his Impossible Mission Force (IMF) as they continue to try and prevent the Entity, a rogue artificial intelligence form, from destroying all of humanity.

The ensemble cast includes Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and Esai Morales.

They’re joined by Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, Holt McCallany, Janet McTeer, Nick Offerman, Hannah Waddingham, Tramell Tillman, Angela Bassett, Shea Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Charles Parnell, Mark Gatiss, Rolf Saxon, and Lucy Tulugarjuk.

The film is said to be the last installment in the franchise but we’ll see. It delivers an intense and emotional culmination to Ethan Hunt’s journey, pairing death-defying stunts with character-driven storytelling.

The action thriller earned critical praise, with an 80 percent score out of 100 on Rotten Tomatoes, with 428 reviews.

“The last hour is exhilarating, there are scenes that will make you lean forward in your seat, amazed at what you’re seeing,” wrote Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicle.

“If this is the end, what a way to go. An impossible mission that’s made possible and thrilling by a brilliant cast, crew and a movie star extraordinaire,” added Dwight Brown of entertainment website DwightBrownInk.com.

Although Kimberley Jones of the Austin Chronicle thought the film was tedious.

“Holy hell, having to sit through nearly three hours of M:I making like Ethan Hunt is the Messiah is not just exhausting: It’s a total misread of what makes these movies so fun. What a bummer,” Jones wrote in the paper’s review.

Criticism aside, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning lands on Paramount+ Thursday, Dec. 4.
