Lifetime Announces Cast for Crime Thriller ‘Shopping Cart Killer,’ Starring Lela Rochon

Lela Rochon will bring a story about the dangers of online dating to the screen in the upcoming Lifetime movie Shopping Cart Killer (working title).

The network announced details about the upcoming film on Tuesday, Oct. 14.

Rochon leads the cast as Monica White, a single mom who decides to try a dating app after sending her son off to military school.

Monica is matched with a handsome suitor named Anthony (played by Jarod Joseph), and thinks she’s made a real connection. What she doesn’t know is Anthony has a horrifying secret — he’s a serial killer who finds his victims through dating apps.

“When she begins connecting the dots between Anthony’s past and a string of murders haunting her community, Monica realizes she may be the key to ending his deadly rampage,” according to the official description.

Based on a true story, the movie is part of Lifetime’s “Ripped From the Headlines” slate.

The Oath actress Elisabeth Röhm will direct the film from a script written by David Weaver and Miriam van Emst.

This marks the seventh movie Röhm has directed for Lifetime after Girl in the Basement; Devil on Campus: The Larry Ray Story; Wife Stalker; Husband, Father, Killer: The Alyssa Pladl Story; Girl in Room 13; and Switched at Birth.

Jarod Joseph’s past work includes roles on The 100 and Once Upon a Time.

Rochon currently stars in the BET+ crime series The Family Business: New Orleans. She previously had a role in the 2024 Lifetime movie Terry McMillan Presents: Tempted by Love, which saw her reteam with McMillan after the 1995 feature film Waiting to Exhale, which was adapted from McMillan’s best-selling book by the same name.

Rochon’s next project, Shopping Cart Killer (working title), will debut in 2026.

Elisabeth Röhm executive produces alongside Kara Feifer, Timothy O. Johnson, and Meghan Hooper White.
