Lifetime has announced a new film in its original “Terry McMillan Presents” franchise, and the latest drama will star Karrueche Tran and Mark J.P. Hood as an on-screen couple.
The network unveiled the title and main cast of Terry McMillan Presents: Preach, Pray, Love this week.
The drama centers on Charlie Jones (played by Tran), described as a platinum-selling rapper fresh out of prison, who is ordered to perform community service.

Charlie crosses paths with Pastor Kyrus Owens (Hood), a minister raising money to build a new church. Though they come from completely different worlds, a spark develops.
But as his church begins to doubt him and she struggles to reconcile her public image, “the couple must rely on honesty, prayer, and love to bridge the divide—and in the process, win over each other’s communities,” according to the official description.
Tran is an actress and socialite who previously had roles on Showtime’s The Chi, TNT series Claws, and web series The Bay. She won a Daytime Emmy for her role as Vivian Johnson on The Bay.
Hood previously had a role in Lifetime’s Abducted at an HBCU: A Black Girl Missing Story.
The cast of the new film also includes Tobias Truvillion (Lust: A Seven Deadly Sins Story), B. Simone (Harlem), Reginae Carter (Pride & Prejudice: Atlanta), and Da Brat (Envy: A Seven Deadly Sins Story).
The drama is the fourth title under McMillan’s partnership with Lifetime. As previously reported, the best-selling author signed a deal with the network in February 2024 to executive produce original movies centering on Black love stories.
Previous films in the banner include Tempted by Love starring Garcelle Beauvais; Forever featuring Taye Diggs and Meagan Good; and His, Hers & Ours with Diggs and Lesley-Ann Brandt.
The film is executive produced by D’Angela Proctor for Undaunted Content. Tran, an Emmy Award-winning actress, also executive produces alongside Damon Lee. Lee directs from a script by Michael Elliot and Cory Tynan.
McMillan is best known for her novels How Stella Got Her Groove Back and Waiting to Exhale, both of which were adapted into hit films.
She previously collaborated with Lifetime on the 2014 movie A Day Late and a Dollar Short, based on her novel of the same name. That project featured an all-star cast including Whoopi Goldberg, Mekhi Phifer, Anika Noni Rose, Kimberly Elise, Tichina Arnold, and Ving Rhames.
Terry McMillan Presents: Preach, Pray, Love premieres Saturday, Nov. 8 at 8/7c on Lifetime. The movie is part of the network’s 2025 “Love of a Lifetime” programming event.
