Keke Palmer took center stage as host of the 2023 Soul Train Awards.
All eyes turned to the actress and singer as she walked the black carpet in a black mini-dress on Sunday, Nov. 19, in Beverly Hills. The awards aired a week later on Nov. 26, at 8 PM ET/PT on BET and BET Her.
The show marked Palmer’s first public appearance after securing a restraining order against ex-boyfriend, actor and fitness instructor Darius Jackson.
The Nope star, who accused Jackson of domestic abuse, filed for the restraining order in Los Angeles Superior Court on Nov. 9. A judge granted the order, which requires Jackson stay at least 100 yards away from both Palmer and the couple’s son, 8-month-old Leodis “Leo” Jackson. Palmer was also given temporary sole custody of the infant.
Despite the personal challenges, Palmer was all smiles as she led the parade of stars at the Soul Train Awards.
The ceremony showcased an array of artists and performances celebrating the diverse and rich talent in the soul music industry.
T-Pain received the prestigious “Legend” award, while Janelle Monáe was honored with the “Spirit of Soul” award.
Other celebrities in attendance included BJ The Chicago Kid, Coco Jones, Danté Bowe, Fridayy, Jermaine Dupri, Maeta, Muni Long, SWV, Tamar Braxton, and Eric Bellinger.
Summer Walker, SZA, and Usher topped the 2023 Soul Train Awards nominations, creating a historic three-way tie with nine nods each.
