The search for three suspects involved in a hit-and-run crash took a bizarre turn, when the wife of rock band Weezer bass player Scott Shriner was shot by a Los Angeles police officer, then charged with attempted murder.
The woman, identified as Jillian Shriner, 51, was injured in the April 8 shooting and hospitalized.
Local news station KTLA 5 covered the incident and described it as “strange.”
The chain of events started with a multi-vehicle crash on the 134 Freeway near the Los Angeles neighborhood of Eagle Rock. Footage aired by local media showed a male hit-and-run suspect being taken into custody, wearing nothing but boxer shorts.

According to a press release from the LAPD, officers responded to the scene at 3:25 p.m. after the California Highway Patrol (CHP) requested backup when three misdemeanor hit-and-run suspects fled the accident scene, and ran toward a residential area in the 5300 block of Waldo Place.
Police said a woman, later identified as Jillian Shriner, was outside “armed with a handgun.” She was not involved in the freeway crash.
According to the LAPD, officers ordered Shriner to drop the gun “numerous times,” but “she refused.” Police said, “Shriner then pointed the handgun at the officers, and an officer-involved shooting occurred.”
The woman was struck by gunfire and fled inside her house.
Paramedics eventually gained access to the home. She was transported to an area hospital and received treatment for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
According to the LAPD, Shriner was “absentee booked” for attempted murder. Police said a 9-millimeter handgun was recovered from her house.
Inmate records showed her bail was set at $1 million. It was unclear if she remained in custody.
The suspect believed to be involved in the crash, who was taken into custody, was cited and released, police said. The other two suspects remain on the loose.
