Wendy Williams’ attorney is responding after the former talk show host broke her silence about her legal guardianship.
As previously reported, Williams, 60, called into “The Breakfast Club” on Thursday, Jan. 16, speaking with co-host Charlamagne Tha God about what she’s been dealing with the past three years.
During the interview, Williams said she feels like she’s in “prison” and described her life as “f–ed up” since she was placed under guardianship.

Her lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, responded to the remarks, telling TMZ that while Williams has good and bad days, people shouldn’t assume the former talk show host is doing well just because of one interview.
Kaplan emphasized that a New York state court determined Williams is unable to make legal and financial decisions for herself due to a degenerative condition.
“She will require care for the remainder of her life,” Kaplan told the outlet.
In 2023, Williams’ court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, revealed that the former TV host had been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. This followed her guardianship appointment in 2022 after Wells Fargo raised concerns about potential financial exploitation.
During her “Breakfast Club” call, Williams’ niece Alex Finnie joined the conversation to criticize the guardianship. Finnie described Williams’ current living conditions as “poor,” alleging she is confined to a heavily secured New York City apartment with only basic amenities. She called it a “luxury prison.”
Finnie supported Williams’ claims of not being cognitively impaired and wants fans to get #FreeWendy trending, referring to a November 2024 court filing in which Morrissey referred to Williams as “permanently incapacitated.”
However, Kaplan pushed back in her response to TMZ, urging fans not to be misled by Williams’ enthusiasm or ability to engage in interviews.
