Tyler Perry’s Duplicity tells a story of police violence, deception and betrayal.

Kat Graham leads the cast as Marley, a powerful and determined attorney who takes on a case that appears to have racial undertones.

In the film, a Black jogger, played by Joshua Adeyeye, is fatally shot by a white police officer after a woman calls 911 and falsely reports he’s breaking into her neighbor’s house.

That jogger happens to be the husband of Marley’s best friend Fela (Meagan Tandy).

As community outrage grows over the police killing of an unarmed Black man, Marley turns to her private investigator boyfriend (Tyler Lepley) to help her uncover the truth. What she finds out is shocking and turns her world upside down.

In an interview with Urban Hollywood 411, the cast talked about the film’s surprising twists.

“I was shook. I remember reading that script and that was the fastest script I ever read,” said Graham. “You just wanted to keep going. I was floored, and that rarely happens.”

This script “has really a good change,” added Meagan Tandy.

Tyler Perry wrote, directed and co-produced the film.

According to Graham, Perry brought a fresh take to the thriller genre, and plot details she did not expect.

“This was totally a different kind of film, a different kind of thriller, a different kind of drama,” she said, joking that the ending was “wild.”

Lepley described what it was like to work with Perry.

“We have a really daunting task when we get on that set. We don’t have too much time and he expects a lot of out of us,” the actor explained.

The cast also includes RonReaco Lee, Nick Barrotta, Jimi Stanton, and TV news anchor-turned-actor Shannon LaNier.

Lee plays a police officer who appears to be a model cop, but he’s rotten to the core.

The actor said he jumped at the chance to take on a role that might surprise his fans.

“I went all in because as an actor, I think that’s what you want. You want to do those things that people don’t expect you to do,” Lee said. “So, when Mr. Perry hit me up about it, it was a no brainer.”

Fans can expect several twists and unexpected turns in this latest Tyler Perry production.

Duplicity is now streaming on Prime Video.
