The cast is set for Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black, his first television series under a new creative partnership with Netflix.
Perry is directing, writing and producing the 16-episode drama series.
The two leads are Taylor Polidore Williams (Divorce in the Black, Snowfall) as Kimmie and former Miss USA 2008 Crystle Stewart (Tyler Perry’s The Oval; Acrimony) as Mallory.
While Kimmie is struggling after being kicked out of her mom’s house, Mallory is a successful businesswoman on the rise. The two women become entangled in each other’s lives as the series unwinds.

Additional cast members include Amber Reign Smith (Outlaw Posse; Wu-Tang: An American Saga) as Rain; Ricco Ross (A Husband for Christmas; Aliens) as Horace; Debbi Morgan (Power; Power Book II: Ghost) as Olivia; Richard Lawson (Black Hamptons; For Colored Girls) as Norman; Steven G. Norfleet (Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire; Ruthless) as Charles; Julian Horton (National Champions; Tyler Perry’s Bruh) as Roy; Terrell Carter (Empire; Diary of a Mad Black Woman) as Varney.
Rounding out the supporting cast are Shannon Wallace (Diarra from Detroit; City on a Hill) as Calvin; Bryan Tanaka (Entourage) as Officer Alex; Joy Rovaris (Saint Clare; The Neighborhood) as Gillian; Xavier Smalls as Angel; Charles Malik Whitfield (The Temptations; If Loving You is Wrong) as Jules; Tamera “Tee” Kissen (House Party; White Men Can’t Jump) as Body; Ursula O. Robinson (Hightown) as Delinda; Ashley Versher (This is Me… Now; Law and Order) as Lena; and George Middlebrook (The Final Play; McGraw Ave H-Block) will play Officer Trackson.
Angi Bones and Tony Strickland will co-produce the hour-long drama for Tyler Perry Studios.
Beauty in Black is one of the Madea film franchise creator’s many projects under his creative partnership.
As previously reported, Perry also has a multi-year first-look deal with the streamer to write, direct and produce feature films for the platform.
His first film under the deal titled Mea Culpa debuted in February. The legal thriller stars Kelly Rowland as a criminal defense attorney who gets caught up in a steamy relationship with the artist she is defending who is accused of murdering his girlfriend.
Next up is Six Triple Eight, a film starring Kerry Washington that tells the true story of the first and only Women’s Army Corp unit of color to be stationed overseas during World War II.
A release date for Beauty in Black will be announced later this year by Netflix.
