Sentencing for Tory Lanez was postponed again on Monday, after the rapper’s attorneys filed a motion for a new trial.

Lanez was found guilty in December for shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion in the feet after leaving a party in 2020. Lanez, who was born Daystar Peterson, has remained jailed since his conviction.

He appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom Monday morning with his attorneys. According to ABC News, the hip-hop star’s legal team told the judge in the case they plan to file a supplement to their motion for a new trial, which is one of the reasons the sentencing has been delayed multiple times.

The attorneys filed the initial motion last month, claiming “the court erred on numerous questions of law.” They are urging the judge to throw out the rapper’s guilty verdict, which prosecutors oppose.

Lanez was first scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 27. The date was then moved to Feb. 28, before being shifted to April 10, and later to April 17. Another hearing is scheduled for May 8.

The delays came after the rapper replaced his original attorney, George Mgdesyan, with defense lawyer Jose Baez in January. Baez won an acquittal for Casey Anthony in her 2011 trial for killing her young daughter, Caylee Anthony.

Lanez was found guilty on Dec. 23, of assault with a semiautomatic firearm; discharging a firearm with gross negligence; and carrying a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle; along with the special allegation of using a firearm to inflict great bodily injury.

The Canadian performer’s previous lawyer claimed during the trial that Megan Thee Stallion’s former best friend and personal assistant, Kelsey Harris, fired the gun at the Houston rapper. Kelsey and Megan both denied that claim in court testimony.

Lanez faces up to 22 years and eight months in state prison, and deportation.
