Sinbad is returning to the stage for his first stand-up performance since he suffered a stroke in 2020.
In a video posted to Instagram on Wednesday, April 29, the comedian announced he will perform at The Ice House comedy club in Pasadena, California on May 10. The event is already sold out, according to the club’s website.
“It’s just the beginning of me coming back,” Sinbad said about the show.
The comic, 69, added that he uses a wheelchair and is still recovering, but can’t wait to get back in front of fans.
“I’m gonna be talking more trash than I ever talked,” he quipped. He also shared that his daughter, singer-songwriter Paige Bryan, and comedian Chase Anthony will open the show.
Sinbad, born David Adkins, has continued to improve since his family announced he suffered a debilitating stroke in October 2020.
He was rushed to a hospital in Los Angeles, where doctors performed a procedure to remove a blood clot and “restore normal blood flow to the brain,” as previously reported.
The comic has posted updates on social media along the way, and in 2022 revealed he was undergoing intensive physical therapy in hopes of regaining the ability to walk again.
“I am not done. I will not stop fighting until I can walk across the stage again,” he said at the time.
Sinbad became a household name in the 1990s for his stand-up specials and as the star of The Sinbad Show on Fox.
The comedian also hosted It’s Showtime at the Apollo from 1989 to 1991. Since then, he has made guest appearances on shows including Moesha, Girlfriends, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
More recently, he had a role in the 2025 Tyler Perry film Straw. Perry praised the comedian while speaking with Entertainment Tonight.
“I know it’s been really difficult for him, so to give him this opportunity made me feel amazing,” he said. “I’m really excited for him. And he delivered.”
