The music has apparently stopped for rapper Tory Lanez.

On Tuesday, Sept. 10, a new post appeared on the hip-hop star’s Instagram page, saying he would no longer be releasing new installments of his “Prison Tapes” music series because guards seized his audio recording equipment.

“The rumors are true,” he shared. “‘The Prison Tapes’ will be discontinued until further notice. However, I think it’s important that my fans know the truth about the crooked ass s–t that’s REALLY going on here.”

“My cell was not raided and trashed because I learned how to record myself in prison or because I created ‘The Prison Tapes,'” he continued. “I was shut down because the ‘higher ups’ figured out what I was really doing with ‘The Prison Tapes’ and how many inmates were being helped in a life changing way because of them.”

The post came a day after TMZ reported the Canadian rapper’s cell had been raided.

Citing Lanez’s legal team as the source, the outlet said “prison guards raided his cell block and confiscated all his studio equipment.”

In July, the Canadian rapper announced he was recording new music while serving time.

“Not even these prison walls can stop me from dropping new music,” he shared on social media. “This is the first of its kind, and although God has shown me that this moment is only temporary, it speaks testimony to the fact that no matter where they put me, they can’t lock down my spirit, my ambition, my soul, my passion or my destiny.”

Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year sentence in a California state prison after a Los Angeles jury found him guilty of shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion on July 12, 2020.

The “It Doesn’t Matter” rapper was convicted on three felony counts — assault with a semiautomatic firearm; discharging a firearm with gross negligence; and carrying a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle; along with the special allegation of using a firearm to inflict great bodily injury.

A judge handed down the rapper’s sentence in August 2023.
