Tituss Burgess Calls Andy Cohen ‘Messy’ After Awkward ‘WWHL’ Interview

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Tituss Burgess went off on Andy Cohen after an awkward interview Sunday night on Watch What Happens Live.

Burgess — who appeared on the Bravo talk show alongside Laverne Cox — took to Instagram to call Cohen out for what he considered a rude question.

“She can be a messy queen! Yes I said it! Don’t care he knows either!” Burgess wrote in the comments section of a video post on his feed. “He should remember his talk show isn’t an episode of the real housewives of Atlanta! It’s a place where artists come to talk about art and have a little fun. NOT a place to rehash old rumors or bring a star negative press.”

The post was in reference to an exchange on the show about Burgess’ upcoming film Dolemite Is My Name with Eddie Murphy.

“Did you get to chat with him at all?” Cohen asked about working with Murphy. “He was very problematic for the gays at one point when I was coming up.”

Cohen was referring to Murphy’s history of using jokes about gays during his stand-up routines early in his career. Murphy apologized decades ago saying: “I deeply regret any pain all this has caused.”

Burgess said Murphy was “wonderful” to work with, adding: “He was great and any troubles he may have had with gay people I guess are gone because he loved me.”

The actor then shot Cohen a nasty look, and later expressed his anger on Instagram.

“Sunday was a display of ratchet behavior by a well connected man having blatant disregard for one of his guests,” Burgess added in his post. “If only time were taken to know who I am and not assuming that I am the character I play on tv he would know how to conduct a proper interview with at all! I received 4 Emmy nominations for acting! NOT for being my self. He was lucky I had my wits and Christian values THAT day.”

This is the second time Cohen has been called out in two weeks.

Earlier this month, Lil’ Kim said her team pulled the plug on interviews with Cohen and other outlets for being “messy.”

“Two of the major outlets wanted to be messy,” she said. “One of them being Watch What Happens Live With Andy. I had a cool relationship with [Andy], I thought.”
