‘The Bernie Mac Show’ Is Coming to Netflix in January

The Bernie Mac Show made audiences laugh for five seasons on network TV, now the family sitcom is coming to Netflix.

In a Dec. 19 post on Instagram, the streamer shared: “America, have we got a gift for you. The Bernie Mac show is coming to Netflix (US) Jan. 1st.”

The series is loosely based on Chicago native Bernie Mac’s stand-up comedy act, and focuses on a comic who suddenly becomes a dad when he takes custody of his sister’s three children. He quickly learns raising kids is hard!

The late comedian led the cast and Kellita Smith co-starred as his wife.

Jeremy Suarez played the couple’s nephew Jordan; Camille Winbush portrayed their eldest niece Vanessa; and Dee Dee Davis played their younger niece Bryana.

Recurring cast members included Reginald Ballard, Wade Williams, Anthony Anderson, and the late Naya Rivera.

Larry Wilmore created the sitcom for The Original Kings of Comedy star.

It aired from 2001 to 2006 on the Fox network. Wilmore and Mac were among the show’s executive producers.

In 2002, Wilmore won an outstanding writing for a comedy series Primetime Emmy Award for his work on the sitcom.

The show’s writing team additionally included Bernie Mac, Courtney A. Kemp (Power Universe) and Steve Tompkins (Two and a Half Men).

The Bernie Mac Show also won several NAACP Image Awards for acting and directing.

In recent years, the show has been available on Tubi and Bounce TV. Now, it will find an even bigger audience on Netflix.
