This summer, the BET Awards will air with Taraji P. Henson returning to host the show.
“I am thrilled to be returning as the host of the BET Awards for the third time. I am also looking forward to celebrating my peers and the impact of our culture on entertainment,” Henson said in a statement Monday.
The actress is best known for playing Cookie Lyon on Fox music drama Empire. She also had roles in the films Hustle & Flow, Hidden Figures, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which earned her an Oscar nomination in 2009.
Recently, she brought Shug Avery to life in the award-winning musical adaptation of The Color Purple, for which she won an NAACP Image Award and received a Screen Actors Guild ensemble nomination.
Connie Orlando, EVP of Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy at BET, called Henson “a phenom known for her vibrant personality and charisma.”
Orlando added, “We are equally as thrilled to have so many incredibly talented performers join us, standing on culture’s biggest stage to deliver an unforgettable night.”
As previously reported, the 2024 BET Awards will honor Usher with a lifetime achievement award and musical tribute.
