Snoop Dogg the action star? Yes, in the new Netflix movie Day Shift.
The rapper-turned-actor is part of a union that hunts and kills vampires in the action comedy. It’s a role Snoop says required super-strength and “extensive” time in the gym.

Snoop chatted about his role at the film’s Aug. 10 premiere outside the Regal LA Live in downtown Los Angeles. The hip-hop star said the film’s director, stunt man-turned-filmmaker JJ Perry, approached him about playing vampire hunter “Big John Elliott” in the movie.
“He wanted me to play it because he felt I can handle the role and I can handle the action,” Snoop said. “It was a challenging role.”
The legendary rapper added that he put in serious time at the gym to prepare for the part.
“I had to do a lot of extensive working out and training, and stretching, and yoga, and tae bo. I got it together though,” he said with a smile.
Snoop co-stars in the film alongside Jamie Foxx, who leads the cast as a hard working blue collar dad, whose Los Angeles pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income — hunting and killing vampires in an international union of vampire hunters.
The movie also stars Dave Franco, Karla Souza, Meagan Good, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Oliver Masucci, Steve Howey, Scott Adkins and Zion Broadnax.
Tyler Tice and Shay Hatten wrote the script. Jamie Foxx executive produced alongside Datari Turner, Charles J.D. Schlissel, Peter Baxter, Alex Young. Producers include Shaun Redick, Yvette Yates Redick, Jason Spitz and John Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski.
Day Shift begins streaming on Friday, Aug. 12.
