Jada Pinkett Smith got people talking this weekend with her bombshell interview on NBC. She even made it into the conversation on Saturday Night Live.

Season 49 of SNL kicked off Saturday with host Pete Davidson and musical guest Ice Spice.

During the “Weekend Update,” co-anchors Michael Che and Colin Jost joked about California’s new “Ebony Alert” law, Texas leaders busing migrants to New York City, and Jada’s interview with Today anchor Hoda Kotb.

“In a new interview, Jada Pinkett Smith reveals that she and husband Will Smith have actually been separated since 2016,” Che said. “Ironically after he suggested she should star in G.I. Jane 2.”

The comedian was referring to Chris Rock’s joke at the 2022 Oscars about Jada’s shaved head. The joke got Chris slapped in the face by a furious Will, who later shouted from his seat: “Keep my wife’s name out of your f–king mouth!”

During her primetime NBC interview on Friday night — promoting her new memoir Worthy –Jada recalled the infamous Oscars incident and said she couldn’t believe Will referred to her as his “wife.”

“First of all, I’m really shocked because, mind you, I’m not there — we haven’t called each other husband and wife in a long time,” she said. “I’m like, ‘What is going on right now?’”

Jada told Hoda she initially thought Will and Chris were performing a skit. She didn’t realize Chris had been slapped until a publicist told her, “Chris has left the building and he’s not going to press charges.”

The Red Table Talk alum added that she’s had “some old shit” with Rock, since she called for a boycott of the Oscars he hosted in 2016. That year, no people of color were nominated in the four major acting categories, including Smith for Concussion, reigniting the #OscarsSoWhite debate.

Chris ignored Jada’s suggestion that he step down, and instead mocked her from the Oscars stage.

“Jada got mad, said she’s not coming. Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties. I wasn’t invited,” Rock said.

Jada’s book doesn’t come out until Oct. 17, so she could do more interviews — and give SNL more material.
