Comedian Rickey Smiley’s daughter Aaryn is speaking out after being shot three times and says she is “beyond grateful” to be alive.
Aaryn was caught in the crossfire of a road rage incident in Houston over the Fourth of July weekend. Since then, she has provided updates on social media about the ordeal.
“The tears won’t stop,” she tweeted early on Wednesday morning. “I’m so happy to be alive. Beyond grateful. I was so close to death.”

Aaryn, who was celebrating her birthday on Sunday after turning 19 just a few days ago, included images of the passenger seat where she was shot. The photos showed the seat was covered in blood.
“I could’ve lost my life yesterday,” she wrote in another tweet. “If it was another hollow tip bullet and the metal didn’t stop it from coming into the car where my head was I would be dead. I’m so grateful there’s only 4 bullet holes. I’m so grateful that it was a regular bullet and not like the one in my leg.”

She continued to share updates with her followers on an Instagram story, including a photo of her leg after surgery.
During the Rickey Smiley Morning Show on Monday, Smiley told listeners Aaryn was on her way to get something to eat at a Whataburger when the shooting occurred.
“I wasn’t even going to say anything about this,” Smiley said during the show. “I’ve been dealing with this all morning, sitting up here with butterflies in my stomach trying to do the show. My youngest daughter was shot last night. She’s in the hospital right now… I’m just so angry.”
Later on Monday, Smiley revealed on Instagram that his daughter “made it out of her operation” and proceeded to thank everyone for their prayers.
Aaryn was scheduled for another surgery on Tuesday and her father continued to provide updates via Instagram, saying that she is doing well.
“My daughter is awesome. She came out of surgery today around noon,” Smiley said in an Instagram video post on Wednesday morning.
