Rapper XXXTentacion spoke of his “tragic death” in a video posted on Instagram before he was killed.

The 20-year-old performer, whose real name was Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, died Monday after being fatally shot around 4 p.m. during an apparent robbery outside a motorcycle shop in South Florida, the Broward Sheriff’s Office told the Miami Herald.

Two armed men approached XXXTentacion as he sat in his black BMW i8, and at least one of them opened fire. The rapper was pronounced dead at a Fort Lauderdale-area hospital.

As news of his death spread, fans began sharing a video he previously posted on Instagram Live where he revealed how he would like to be remembered if he died.

“If worse thing comes to worst, and I f—ing die a tragic death or some s– and I’m not able to see out my dreams, I at least want to know that the kids perceived my message and were able to make something of themselves and able to take my message and use it and turn it into something positive, and to at least have a good life,” he told fans. The date of the clip is not specified.

“If I’m going to die or ever be a sacrifice, I want to make sure that my life made at least five million kids happy or they found some sort of answers or resolve in my life regardless of the negative around my name, regardless of the bad things people say to me,” he continued in the video.

The rapper added: “I don’t give a f— because I know my goal in the end and I know what I want for everyone and I know what my message is. I just wanted to say, I appreciate and love all of you and I believe in you all.”

Last month Spotify said it would remove XXXTentacion’s music from its curated playlists as part of its new policy targeting hate content and hateful conduct.

On Monday as news of the rapper’s death spread, fellow performers and fans expressed shock and sadness.
