Rich Homie Quan Remembered by Friends and Fans After His Death at 34

Rapper Rich Homie Quan died in his hometown of Atlanta on Thursday at age 34.

News of his death was first reported on social media. Family members of the rapper, born Dequantes Lamar, and the Fulton County morgue later confirmed his passing to TMZ.

The outlet reported Quan’s relatives were left “shattered and heartbroken by his sudden death.”

Rapper Boosie Badazz, who was friends with Quan, posted a string of tributes on X (formerly Twitter) Thursday, and suggested he died from a possible drug overdose, although the official cause of death has not been released.

Rich Homie Quan rose to prominence in 2013 with his single “Type of Way,” which charted on the Billboard Hot 100.

Known for his half-sung-half-rap style of music, the platinum-selling artist also released the fan favorite singles “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” and “Ride Out.”

New York rapper Biz Markie described him as a musical “genius” Thursday on social media.

“The melodic genius who never stopped going in, who sang & wrote hooks as memorable as anything to ever chart, pop masterpieces straight out the mud. An era-defining ATL all-timer,” he shared on X.

In a 2017 interview on Vice’s “The Therapist” show, Quan discussed dealing with adversity, breaking into houses, stealing and spending time in jail.

“I did 15 months in county and I would definitely say those 15 months recentered me,” he said. “I was so vulnerable for 15 months. I couldn’t trust anyone.”

Music wise, he appeared alongside Birdman in the Cash Money Records’ offshoot project Rich Gang. Quan was featured on the group’s hit 2014 single “Lifestyle.”

On the YouTube page for the “Lifestyle” music video, fans shared tributes to Rich Homie Quan.

“The end of an artist who played a big part in the 2010’s era. Rest in peace mane,” added @noheabryce6525.

“Rip rich homie quan. We just lost a great legend,” added @kouadioloucou2839.
