Queen Sugar has added four actors to its cast ahead of the OWN drama’s sixth season, which is currently shooting in New Orleans.
Tammy Townsend, Paula Jai Parker, Marquis Rodriguez and McKinley Freeman will all be featured in season 6 of the series, OWN said in a recent press release.

Tammy Townsend (K.C. Undercover) has signed on as a series regular and will portray Billie, the daughter of Bordelon family friend Prosper Denton (Henry G. Sanders.) Billie returns to St. Josephine for the first time in 20 years to care for her ailing father.
Paula Jai Parker (The Wayans Bros.) will be a recurring guest star, playing Celine, a single mother trying to establish her life in St. Josephine with her 10-year-old son, Gabriel.
Marquis Rodriguez (When They See Us) will also be a recurring guest star, playing college student Isaiah, who is a friend of Micah West.
McKinley Freeman (Titans) is another recurring guest star and will portray Dominic, a cultural anthropologist who captures the attention of Nova Bordelon.
OWN also announced the season’s female-led directorial line-up, which includes: Bertha Bay-Sa Pan, Carmen Marrón, Cierra Glaude, Keisha Rae Witherspoon, Marie Jamora, Shari Carpenter, Shaz Bennett and Stephanie Turner, with Lisa France upped to serve as producing director.
Queen Sugar is produced for OWN by Ava DuVernay’s Array Filmworks and Harpo Films in association with Warner Bros. Television. Executive producers include Ava DuVernay, Oprah Winfrey, Paul Garnes and Anthony Sparks. The series is based on the book by Natalie Baszile.
The series stars Rutina Wesley, Dawn-Lyen Gardner and Kofi Siriboe. The series is currently airing Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on OWN and is available on the WatchOWN app. The first four seasons are available to stream on Hulu.
Season 6 of Queen Sugar is set to air this fall.
