Queen Latifah to Be Inducted Into Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame

Queen Latifah has been selected for this year’s class of inductees at the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame in Atlanta.

Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes and Jermaine Dupri have also been selected as honorees, the Black American Music Association and the Georgia Entertainment Caucus announced on Tuesday (June 20) in honor of Black Music Month.

Also joining the 2023 class of honorees are Magic Johnson, Dallas Austin, Marvin Sapp, and Mahalia Jackson.

Each inductee will receive a Crown Jewel of Excellence emblem, which will be permanently installed on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in front of the Mercedes Benz Stadium in downtown Atlanta.

The annual induction ceremony, which recognizes notable contributions to Black music and culture, is set to take place in October.

“This year’s inductees embody Black excellence who individually have bodies of work that will remain impactful for generations to come,” shared Walk of Fame co-founder, Catherine Brewton.

Other founders of the organization include Demmette Guidry, Erica Thomas, and Michael Mauldin.

The newly announced class of Walk of Fame members join a long roster of past honorees, including inductees James Brown, Otis Redding, Quincy D. Jones, Stevie Wonder, Berry Gordy, Cicely Tyson, Ray Charles, Smokey Robinson, Cathy Hughes, Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington, Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff, Robert Smith, RUN DMC, and T.D. Jakes.

Past legacy acts such as Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Patti LaBelle, and Prince have also been honored, along with contemporary performers like Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliot, Lauryn Hill, NAS, Outkast, and Snoop Dogg.

Additionally, Angela Bassett has been recognized for her accomplishments as an actress, while Tyler Perry and Steve Harvey have been honored for their work as entertainers.

The Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame was founded in 2021.

The 2023 induction ceremony takes place on Oct. 26 in Atlanta, Georgia.
