Verne Troyer, an actor best known for playing Mini Me in the Austin Powers films , died in April of suicide by alcohol intoxication, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said Wednesday.

The autopsy report listed Troyer’s official cause of death as “sequelae of alcohol intoxication,” or alcohol abuse.

In April, the actor was rushed from his home in North Hollywood, California to a hospital to be treated for alcohol intoxication, the coroner’s report said.

Three weeks later, the 49-year-old star died on April 21 of multiple organ failure. He had a blood alcohol level of more than three times the legal limit of 0.08 at the time of his death, according to the autopsy report. The actor had a history of depression. When he called 911, he said during the call that he wanted to die, the coroner’s office said.

Troyer’s family released a statement on his Instagram account announcing his death.  The post confirmed he had been battling depression.

“Over the years he’s struggled and won, struggled and won, struggled and fought some more, but unfortunately this time was too much,” the post read. “Depression and suicide are very serious issues. You never know what kind of battle someone is going through inside. Be kind to one another. And always know, it’s never too late to reach out to someone for help.

Troyer was born with dwarfism, which caused him to stop growing at 2-feet-8-inches. His family noted that he reached incredible heights in his career.

“Even though his stature was small and his parents often wondered if he’d be able to reach up and open doors on his own in his life, he went on to open more doors for himself and others than anyone could have imagined,” the family’s statement read. “He also touched more people’s hearts than he will ever know.”
