Nick Cannon revealed Tuesday his youngest son Zen has died from brain cancer at 5 months old.

The actor, host and producer made the news public during a segment on Tuesday’s episode of The Nick Cannon Show. After putting a photo of his son on his desk and telling the audience the baby’s name, he paused for a few moments and fought back tears.

Cannon then told the audience that a few months after his son was born in June, he took the infant to the doctor for what was believed to be a sinus infection. Fluid was building up in the baby’s head and Zen required immediate surgery.

“Thanksgiving we had an interesting turn and the process sped up,” Cannon explained. “It was cancer in the brain and the tumor began to grow a lot faster.”

Cannon said he spent this past Sunday at the beach with his son and Zen’s mother, Alyssa Scott before heading back to New York to be in studio for his talk show.

He then broke down as he talked about the final moments with his son. “Holding my son for the last time, but it was a beautiful setting,” he said as tears rolled down his face.

He also talked about spending the day with the infant while watching the sun rise and set near the ocean.

“I didn’t know how I was going to handle today, but I wanted to grieve with my family,” he said.

Zen was Cannon’s seventh child. He shares twins Morocco and Monroe, 10, with Mariah Carey; son Golden, 4, and daughter Powerful, 11 months, with Brittany Bell; and twins Zillion and Zion, 5 months, with Abby De La Rosa.
