‘Never Would Have Made It: The Marvin Sapp Story’ Trailer Released by TV One

A young Marvin Sapp struggles to find his way in the TV One biopic, Never Would Have Made It: The Marvin Sapp Story.

The cable network released the trailer for the film this week, which shows Sapp battling teenage alcohol abuse before finding his voice in church.

“I have no other choice than to put my faith and trust in God,” says Sapp played by Chaz Lamar Shepherd (Marvel’s Luke Cage, The Game).

The biopic chronicles the gospel music legend’s life and career, including his upbringing in Michigan, growth in his faith, and his relationship with wife MaLinda Prince Sapp, played by Ambre Anderson (Power Book II, Manifest Evil).

The film is directed by Russ Parr and produced for TV One by Swirl Films, with Eric F. Tomosunas, James Seppelfrick and Keith Neal serving as executive producers. Additionally, Marvin Sapp and Phil Thornton are executive producers. For TV One, Jason Ryan is the executive producer in charge of production.

Sapp, 55, rose to prominence as a member of the group Commissioned before launching a solo career. He is widely known for his award-winning hit single “Never Would Have Made It.” He is also an author, radio host and senior pastor of The Chosen Vessel Cathedral in Fort Worth, Texas, as well as pastor emeritus of Lighthouse Full Life Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Never Would Have Made It: The Marvin Sapp Story premieres Sunday, Aug. 21 at 9/8c on TV One.
