Meagan Good admits her friends warned her to be careful about getting romantically involved with Jonathan Majors in the middle of his domestic violence case.
Still, the actress says she brushed aside their concerns because she doesn’t make choices based on “what someone else is saying.”
Good, 42, made the comments during a July 9 interview on Today with Hoda & Jenna.
The actress stopped by the morning news show to promote her new movie Tyler Perry’s Divorce in the Black.
The conversation turned to her relationship with Majors when Hoda Kotb asked if any of Good’s friends suggested she “wait a beat” to date Majors until his legal troubles ended.
“Every friend advised me,” Good said. “But at the end of the day, one thing I know is that I can always look at myself in the mirror when I trust my spirit, when I trust God, when I ask God, and when I move to the beat of my own drum — I can always look and say, ‘Okay, I’m proud of that.’”

Good said she appreciates her friends’ input, but she ultimately makes her own choices.
“I take everyone’s opinion and advice into account, for sure, but at the end of the day, I’m the one who has to live my life. I’m the one who has to get to Heaven one day, prayerfully, and give God an account of what I did,” she added. “So, I want to be responsible for the choices that I make. I also want to live the life that I want to live.”
The actress remained by Majors’ side throughout his trial and December 2023 conviction on two misdemeanor counts – one assault charge and one harassment charge — for assaulting his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari in New York City in March 2023.
Good told Kotb and co-host Jenna Bush her relationship with Majors has been “wonderful.”
“The support we’ve been able to give to each other, the pouring into each other, the honest conversations, the love, the respect, just the care, and the thoughtfulness, it’s been really wonderful,” the actress said.
Good was previously married to film producer and motivational speaker, DeVon Franklin. The two announced they were divorcing in 2021 after nearly ten years of marriage.
She told the Today hosts Franklin is a “wonderful person” and they are “still friends.”
