Mathew Knowles Plans Musical on Destiny’s Child ‘Victories and Failures’

Mathew Knowles is taking Destiny’s Child to Broadway.

Beyoncé’s father, who managed the group and helped launch it into stardom, shared the news Wednesday via his personal Instagram account.

“BREAKING: @jecaryous Johnson and I are collaborating on Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical with plans for Broadway, London’s West End, and a world tour! More details coming soon…,” he captioned a shot of Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams.

The businessman elaborated on the venture in a statement shared to his personal website, writing: “I want to pull back the curtain. I feel it’s time to give the world an opportunity to hear, see and feel the victories and failures that I’ve had as a husband, father and manager who risked everything in pursuit of fulfilling dreams – those of mine and others.”

Knowles is collaborating on the project with writer and producer Je’Caryous Johnson, whose credits include Redemption of a Dogg and Set it Off Live, to name a few works.

Johnson said in his own statement about the news: “It’s fair, it’s real and it’s an absolute honor to know that Mr. Knowles trusts me to pen and produce such an iconic piece of American history.”

Knowles was Destiny’s Child’s manager from 1997 to 2006. He now leads seminars about the entertainment industry and gives lectures at colleges around the country.
