Despite media reports saying a letter was sent to Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón demanding his office “immediately arrest and prosecute” Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears for alleged child molestation, Gascón’s office said it hasn’t received any letter.

Several media outlets reported the woman who accused the comedians of allegedly grooming her and her younger brother and coercing them into filming sexually explicit skits sent the letter to the D.A.’s office on Monday, Sept. 5.

The letter reportedly said the accuser, named as Jane Doe in the lawsuit to protect her identity, and her younger brother John Doe “are prepared to speak with investigators and prosecutors from your office and provide you with irrefutable evidence that substantiates our allegations.”

The letter also noted that the accuser’s mother filed a police report in Las Vegas in January 2020, and claimed Las Vegas authorities passed the case along to the the LAPD, and the officer assigned to the case “has done nothing with this complaint.”

But on Tuesday night, the D.A.’s office posted a statement on Twitter saying it hadn’t seen any letter.

“We are aware of news reports that a letter was sent to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office regarding the alleged sexually exploitive conduct of Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears,” the statement said. “Unfortunately, we have not yet received the letter.”

The statement continued, “We are connecting with law enforcement partners to determine whether there is an open investigation into the matter. We take these allegations very seriously and the matter will receive a thorough review if/when it is presented to us.”

On Aug. 29, Jane Doe filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court accusing Haddish and MADtv alum Spears of intentional infliction of emotional distress, gross negligence, sexual battery, sexual harassment, and sexual abuse of a minor.

The lawsuit said Jane and John were 14 and 7, when the comedians allegedly had them participate in sexually suggestive videos in separate incidents in 2013 and 2014.

Jane alleged she appeared in an explicit skit recorded in 2013 and was taught how to simulate fellatio.

The suit also said John was allegedly molested in 2014, when he was seven years old. The complaint stated Haddish “offered to book, arrange, and film Mr. Doe content for a Nickelodeon sizzle reel at the home of Spears. Haddish claimed the reel would be used to book Mr. Doe on Nickelodeon.”

“Upon information and belief, Haddish and Spears removed the 7-year-old victim from his sister, placed him upstairs in a bedroom, and stripped the child down to his underwear,” the complaint alleges. “The video was entitled ‘Through A Pedophile’s Eyes’ and shows Spears lusting over the 7-year-old child.”

The Daily Beast said its reporters viewed the recording and “John spends most of his time clad only in underwear while Spears leers at him and, at one point, applies baby oil to the child’s body.”

The video was uploaded to the “Funny or Die” website as user-generated content. Last week a representative for “Funny or Die” said the comedy platform removed the video after being made aware that it was posted.

Haddish spoke out about the allegations in a statement on Instagram Monday saying she “deeply” regrets performing in the skit with the boy.

“I know people have a bunch of questions. I get it. I’m right there with you. Unfortunately, because there is an ongoing legal case, there’s very little that I can say right now,” Haddish said in the statement. “But, clearly, while this sketch was intended to be comedic, it wasn’t funny at all – and I deeply regret having agreed to act in it. I really look forward to being able to share a lot more about this situation as soon as I can.”

Last week Spears’ attorney Debra Opri told Entertainment Weekly the comedian “isn’t going to fall for any shakedown.”
