‘Holiday Heartbreak’ Star LisaRaye McCoy Talks BET Movie, Fox Soul and Halle Berry (Exclusive)

LisaRaye McCoy Interview

‘Tis the season for family, laughter, and the new BET movie Holiday Heartbreak.

The original comedy from MegaMind Media follows a father who discovers his womanizing ways from the past are coming back to haunt his daughter, in the form of a curse cast on his family by one of his former flames.

The Christmas movie stars Michael Colyar, Maryam Basir, A.J. Johnson, Kountry Wayne, B. Simone, and LisaRaye McCoy.

“I love the story within itself, and the cast is phenomenal,” LisaRaye told Urban Hollywood 411 in a recent zoom interview.

The movie was shot this past summer in Oxon Hill, Maryland. LisaRaye noted that the cast and crew followed strict coronavirus protocols.

“The set was professional, because we filmed during COVID time. And COVID regulations were right on, spot on point,” she said.

The movie’s release comes at a busy time for the actress and businesswoman. She recently launched a luxury furniture line called LR Homestyles by LisaRaye, and co-hosts the Fox Soul streaming show, Cocktails With Queens

LisaRaye admitted she can be outspoken on Cocktails With Queens, but said she doesn’t regret any of her comments.

“I say what I say, and I mean what I say, and I stand by what I say,” she stated. “If you ever hear an apology from me, it’s not because of what I said, it was that it was being taken out of context.”

The Player’s Club actress made headlines in November, for suggesting during a segment on Cocktails With Queens that Halle Berry “is not good in bed.”

Berry heard about her comments, and responded on social media. “Ms. @TheRealLRaye1, ask my man @vanhunt he’ll tell ya all y’all need ta know,” Berry tweeted on Nov. 25.

In our interview, LisaRaye blamed bloggers for taking her words out of context.

“I talk about things that I’ve heard, things that I’ve read, things that people have told me, and I may add that to the commentary. Now, if you take it and run with it, and that’s what I did not like about the beef that they were trying to start between Halle and I about a comment that I said about an interview that [Berry] actually said about giving herself her first orgasm at age 11,” LisaRaye explained.

“We kind of added to that and were like, ‘Oh, did y’all hear that story about when she did Monster’s Ball? They said that she wasn’t good in bed.’ I didn’t say that. That was a commentary from Claudia Jordan. But what I said was, ‘yeah, I heard that. That’s what they said’ … And [bloggers] took that and ran with it,” she continued.

LisaRaye added that she tried to set the record straight on social media.

“I took to social media for the first time because I said, ‘no, you guys are not going to do that because Halle is one of me. She’s a Black woman. She’s a queen. She’s a single parent. She’s an actress. She’s broken barriers for me as an actress. She’s the GOAT when it comes to me, because she was there before me,” she said.

LisaRaye added that she meant the Oscar-winning actress no disrespect.

“Never did I want her to feel like I was disrespecting her at all. When she clapped back, so eloquently I must say, she said, ‘well LisaRaye, if you want to know girl, ask my man.’ I said, ‘girl, I ain’t gotta ask your man nothing. I’m sure you’re handling that. But I will report on that Monday for the next show,'” she said.

You can hear more from LisaRaye in the below video. Holiday Heartbreak premiered Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 6pm ET/PT on BET and BET HER. It will start streaming in the coming days on BET+.
