Lifetime is going behind bars, literally, in the new docuseries Prison Brides.
The show will follow seven women from around the world, who found their “soulmates” in American prisons, the cable network said in a press release.
Each woman started off corresponding with her partner through a prison pen pal program, then “found themselves willing to risk it all for love,” per Lifetime.

The series shows the women traveling from their homes to spend time with their prisoner fiancés, husbands, or partners, with some of the brides traveling to the U.S. for the first time.
“With the couples facing harsh judgment from friends, family and strangers, the brides grapple with uncertainty and their ultimate decision to risk it all for true love. Will true love prevail for these star-crossed lovers with the odds stacked against them?” the official description says.
Prison Brides is produced for Lifetime by the UK’s Big Little Fish. Executive producers include Mark Procter and Peter Usher. Jack Tarantino showruns. Brie Miranda Bryant, Jonathan Partridge, and Nicole Vogel executive produce for Lifetime.
The series premieres Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 9:30p/8:30c
The network also announced the unscripted series I Wasn’t Expecting a Baby!
The show documents the true stories of women who were completely unaware they were pregnant, until they were about to give birth. In a phenomenon known as “cryptic pregnancies,” one in 2,500 women experience pregnancies that go unnoticed until delivery.
The series is produced by Haymaker Media Inc., LLC for Lifetime. Executive producers include Aaron Rothman, Jesse Light, Josh Halpert, Jessica Chesler, and Maria Pepin. Amy Savitsky and Kim Chessler executive produce for Lifetime.
I Wasn’t Expecting a Baby! will air on Thursdays, beginning Feb. 8 at 10p/9c
