LeToya Luckett to Star in Lee Daniels Fox Series ‘Our Kind of People’

LeToya Luckett has been added to the cast of Fox’s upcoming drama series Our Kind of People from Lee Daniels.

The R&B singer and actress shared the news with her followers Friday on Instagram, saying she’s “overjoyed” to join the series.

“I can’t tell you how long I’ve worked & prayed for an opportunity like this. My heart is full of pure gratitude,” she captioned her post.

According to Deadline, Luckett will portray “Leah Franklin-Dupont, a strong, confident, elegant businesswoman.”

The former Destiny’s Child member co-stars as Morris Chestnut’s wife in the series inspired by Lawrence Otis Graham’s book, “Our Kind of People: Inside America’s Black Upper Class.”

As previously reported, Chestnut plays Raymond Dupont, a successful executive at a food conglomerate who is trying to revive the company following mismanagement by his business partner. Yaya DaCosta will portray Angela Vaughn, a single mother determined to find entrepreneurial success through her haircare line for Black women. She also discovers a family secret on her mother’s side that could set the town abuzz.

Our Kind of People is set in the affluent Black community of Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard.

Empire co-creator Lee Daniels and Star’s Karin Gist will be at the helm of the series as creators and executive producers. Gist will serve as writer for the show.

Additional executive producers will include Marc Velez for Lee Daniels Entertainment, Pam Williams and Claire Brown for The Gist Of It Productions, Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens and Rodney Ferrell for Propagate and Montrel McKay. Twentieth Television and Fox Entertainment will produce.

Tasha Smith is set to direct the pilot episode. The series is expected to air on Tuesdays, starting in the fall.
